The Secret to a Successful Marriage

Monday, October 12th, 2009

sungThe Merit Times reported that this last Sunday a Taiwan couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and revealed the secret to their success was an apple a day. Lee Ta-pin, 77, and Sung Chin-yu, 74, renewed their wedding vows while each held a red apple to honor the tradition with the fruit that began three months after their wedding 50 years ago.

Lee was an army reservist and was called to serve in the military for 30 days after they first wed. Lee knew Sung like to eat apples so he bought her a basket of them and told her to eat one apple a day when she missed him.

“By the time you have finished eating the 30 apples, I will come home and we will be reunited,” Lee said.

Ever since then, Lee has bought apples for Sung so that she could have an apple each day.

Now that’s a great love a story!

What A Way to Kick Off Halloween Season

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

pumpkinMSN.com posted a great blurb about a Cleveland, Ohio couple who brought the Halloween spirit to their wedding this past weekend.

The Chronicle-Telegram in Cleveland, Ohio reports that 61-year-old Jack Holsinger and 44-year-old Connie Spitznagel had a Halloween-themed wedding that could by-far beat all others. The couple showed up to their wedding at a local haunted house as pale-faced vampires. The couple met a campground which is owned by the same people who run the haunted house.

Holsinger arrived in a coffin inside a hearse, and the coffin was carried to the altar by six pallbearers. Minister Greg Kopp was dressed as Jason from the “Friday the 13th” movies. After the vows were exchanged, he ordered Holsinger not to kiss his new bride but instead to bite her on the neck.

Wow, this is a wedding the guests will never forget. Would you have a Halloween themed wedding?

Wal-Mart Weddings

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Usually when you hear the term ‘Wal-Mart Wedding’ it can mean a couple is planning their wedding on a tight budget. But these couples literally got married in Wal-Mart.

Crystal Newsome and Robert “Vick” Vickrey, both of whom are Wal-Mart employees got married in the York, Nebraska Wal-Mart Supercenter on September 26th, 2009. Robert has worked at Wal-Mart for 12 years and is the grocery department manager while Crystal is the deli manager and has been with the company for 5 years. The couple found their way to love about 2 years ago when their friendship turned into a work romance. They figured that since they worked, met and watched their love grow at Wal-Mart that they might as well get married there.

Jori Ruit and Dan Holland, also Wal-Mart employees got married at their store in Freeport last Valentines Day. Their wedding took place in the Garden center and it became a community event with Freeport high school students decorating the store and some local businesses donated gifts and services. The Wal-Mart bakery made the cake and coworkers served as ushers and bridesmaids. To watch how they met and view the whole story click here.

Cufflinks and Accessory Ideas for the Groom

Here are some quick thoughts on the groom’s wedding day accessories from the groom experts at The Man Registry.

Guys, if you’re wearing a tux on your wedding day, you’re going to need cufflinks. Tux shops usually provide a “Plain Jane” cufflink that goes with your attire. Trust me, you can do better. Most grooms will order personalized cufflinks for themselves (and oftentimes for their groomsmen as well). Some of our most popular options are the engraved two tone cufflinks and the Harrison Silver cufflinks.

Ascots are making a comeback in a big way. If you and your bride are fashion-oriented, this may be a route for you to consider instead of the standard necktie or bowtie. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the ascot, it’s a narrow silk band that goes around the neck. It features wide pointed wings and looks a little something like this. Keep in mind you’ll generally need a pin to hold the ascot in place.

Personalizing the boutonniere is quickly becoming a popular way for the groom to leave his mark on the wedding day attire. Whether it’s utilizing colors from a favorite sports team or incorporating a favorite hobby, there are plenty of ideas out there. Just remember to consult with the bride before pinning a flower in the shape of a deer head to your tux!
Finally, if you’re wearing a vest, consider adding a pocket watch with a chain. This may sound funny or straight out of a movie, but classy and elegant is in. Take a risk and go for it!

We want to hear from the readers of BravoBride. What ideas do you have for the groom’s wedding day accessorizing? Leave your comments below!
