Saturday, November 28th, 2009

We just found these fun and unique place card ideas on MarthaStewartWeddings.com. Not only are they super creative but they’d also be easy to do yourself.

unique-placecard-holders
These place cards would be perfect for a summer wedding. All you need is a shallow serving tray filled with sand, drink umbrellas that can be found at any store and decorative paper from a craft store. Fold the paper to look like a beach towel, super glue the umbrella to the towel and you have your summer-themed seating cards.

leaves
These name cards are ideal for a Fall themed wedding. Just like the summer-theme get a shallow serving tray, fill the tray with real or fake moss and find some twigs from your own back yard. The pieces for this display could all be found at your home. Find a leaf stencil and craft paper at your local craft store and attach the leaves to the twigs with ribbon.

favors
Two-in-one seating cards and wedding favors. If your wedding favors come in a box or can be placed into a box then decorate the outside with ribbon or wrapping paper that goes with your wedding colors and place the name card on top.

cards
If you’re having a wedding in Vegas, then these place cards will be perfect. You can either buy playing cards from your local store or order specially created cards online. Add  your guests name on the front of each card and use the card numbers on that back to assign them to a table.

Large hurricane vases containing floating candles are placed on either side of a path strewn with rose petals. If you are picking from your own garden, pluck them early in the morning when roses are freshest. For a more inexpensive approach, use fake flower petals or just have the large vases as a pathway to the wedding and/or reception.

This monogrammed banner is a cute and sweet way of leading your guests to the church and/or reception. It is also a great way of greeting your guests to the event.

Easy Accessory Idea for your Bridesmaids

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Martha Stewart provided another cute idea for your bridesmaids to wear on your big day. Fabric flower rings. This could be a fun activity to do at a bridal shower or hand them out at the rehearsal dinner.

Start by cutting fabric flowers, such as the ones shown here, from their stems. Wrap ribbon around your finger to determine the approximate length you’ll need; cut ribbon to size, adding about 1/4 inch for overlap. Use a hot-glue gun to join ends together, forming a loop, and to add flowers to ribbon bands. Ta-da! You’ll have an easy and affordable gift for your bridesmaids! Or if you’re not a do-it-yourselfer, check out this new BravoBride Boutique that specializes in ribbon flowers – they are beautiful!

Crazy for cupcakes

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

In case you haven’t noticed cupcakes are becoming all the rage and are sometimes replacing the traditional cake when it comes to celebrating special occasions. From the bridal shower to the bachelorette party to the reception, wedding cupcakes are making it more fun and easier to please your guests.

Why do we love cupcakes other than the fact they are small but so delicious?

  • With cupcakes you can get more creative with the decorations and colors.
  • You can go crazy with the different amount of flavors.
  • Last but not least, portion control. For some reason it just feels like cupcakes have less calories than a piece of cake. Although I am sure this is not true, it just makes them seem more guilt free. Which must make them somewhat healthy, right? ;)

Check out how some brides used cupcakes at their wedding and bachelorette parties below.

Marriage at the end of a 60 mile walk

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

breast-caner-walkCarol Bitner and her walk-mate, Bill Caputi, were married Sunday after finishing the Breast Cancer 3-Day fundraising trek from Buford to Atlanta. About 2,200 people walked for the 3-Day – large-scale fundraiser for breast cancer research that benefits Susan G. Komen For the Cure.

The two met in early 2008 as Bitner, who is a breast cancer survivor, was training for the 2008 Breast Cancer 3-Day. Training was one of the most important parts of Bitner’s life last year, and Caputi wanted to support her, he said. So they started walking together.

“I met him when I was training, and he just stepped in right away,” she said.

Those weekly – and sometimes twice-weekly – walks of five to 15 miles gave the new couple a lot of time to get to know each other. Then, about five weeks ago, Caputi popped the question, and Bitner said yes. The intervening weeks have felt like he was living in a Disney movie, Caputi said.

Bitner and Caputi feel like they are starting a new chapter in their lives, and the support they’ve received from their friends and family has been amazing, Caputi said. “At this point in life, to feel like this is like being rejuvenated,” he said. “Not just the body, but the heart, the soul – all of that is feeling like it’s 25 or 30 years old.”

Now that’s a great way to end such an important walk! We love her pink hat and veil too!

Wedding Savings Tip – Use an Outdoor Backdrop

If a fancy reception site isn’t in your budget, then just take advantage of an outdoor backdrop. A new trend in Providence, Rhode Island is to take advantage of The State House and its sweeping staircases and impressive rotunda to capture a formal wedding photo. Many couples are heading to the gorgeous location between the ceremony and reception to squeeze in some photos with an elegant backdrop.

Officially, the state doesn’t allow couples to marry or hold receptions at the capitol, but it has embraced the photo concept. The site has become such a desired locale that the state Facilities Department now books the space more than a year in advance, jamming in up to three couples a weekend in the peak wedding months of summer and fall.

So if you are wanting a memorable, beautiful backdrop for you wedding photos then research locations near your wedding and reception site and find what their policies are on using their location.

Wal-Mart Weddings

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Usually when you hear the term ‘Wal-Mart Wedding’ it can mean a couple is planning their wedding on a tight budget. But these couples literally got married in Wal-Mart.

Crystal Newsome and Robert “Vick” Vickrey, both of whom are Wal-Mart employees got married in the York, Nebraska Wal-Mart Supercenter on September 26th, 2009. Robert has worked at Wal-Mart for 12 years and is the grocery department manager while Crystal is the deli manager and has been with the company for 5 years. The couple found their way to love about 2 years ago when their friendship turned into a work romance. They figured that since they worked, met and watched their love grow at Wal-Mart that they might as well get married there.
