Featured Bride – Jennifer P.

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Our featured bride is Jennifer P. from Kansas and also the creator of BreakForMoms.com which is a really great blog to read if you have kids. Jennifer sold two of her wedding dresses on BravoBride and shares her story and wedding with us below.

How beautiful is this arch?!

When you were shopping for a dress, what were you looking for in style?

Since we were having a beach wedding (no family or friends…just us!), I wanted something very simple.  I also wanted it to be timeless because I didn’t want to look at the pictures in 30 years and wonder “what in the world was I thinking?”

Why did you decide to sell your wedding dress?

I got teased a lot because I actually bought 4 (or maybe even 5) white dresses because I couldn’t decide which one I wanted for the wedding! I ended up wearing one for my bridal shower, one for the reception, and one for the wedding. I sold two of the dresses on BravoBride because really, who needs 5 wedding dresses taking up space in the closet?

Another one of Jennifer's beautiful wedding dresses

Would you recommend selling a used wedding gown to other brides?

Absolutely. Do you really think your daughter is going to want to wear your dress in 25 years?  You have pictures in it, so you really don’t need the dress.

The groom and bride in Antigua. They look so happy!

Where and when did you get married?

Summer of 2007 on the beach in Antigua.

The first dinner as a married couple.

What was your favorite part of your day?

I loved that we had NO stress, and we were out swimming a couple of hours before the ceremony and said “oh, I guess we should go and get ready for our wedding now.” Also, the Jolly Beach Resort had a special table set up for us to have dinner RIGHT next to the water a few hours after the wedding. It was AMAZING (see the picture!).

Featured Bride – Renee M.

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

Our featured bride is super sweet Renee M. from San Antonio, Texas. She sold her Oleg Cassini wedding dress on BravoBride and was kind enough to share her story and wedding with us.

Renee wore a princess style Oleg Cassini gown.

When you were shopping for a dress, what were you looking for in style?
When I was shopping for a dress, I knew I wanted a full princess style floor length dress. I also knew that I looked best in halter styles. I chose an Oleg Cassini gown from David’s Bridal. I found the dress I wanted rather quickly with the help of my maid of honor Karen; it was amazing how quickly I found it and just knew it was the one by the look on Karen’s face and the faces of the strangers at the store around me.

I love how they used several different types of cakes.

Why did you decide to sell your wedding dress?
After my baby girl was a few months old, I knew I wanted to sell my dress. I knew that it would just age in my closet, and I’m pretty sure my daughter will one day want her own gown in her own style. I wanted someone else to experience their precious wedding day memories in my beautiful gown, rather than have it sit in the dark in the closet for decades. The extra money was helpful as well after having a baby.

Would you recommend selling a used wedding gown to other brides?
I would absolutely recommend to other brides to sell their wedding dress for the financial sense of it and the rewarding feeling you get knowing another bride will get use out of your gown as she makes it her own, on one of the biggest days of her life.

Shepherd of Hills Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX.

Where and when did you get married?
Matthew and I got married May 24, 2008 at Shepherd of Hills Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX.

What was your favorite part of your day?
My most endearing memory of that special day was reciting my vows to Matt and hearing them recited back by him. The energy of that moment was like silent thunder in my ears, as a warm feeling of genuine sentiment and joy pulsed through me. My second favorite part was appearing in the arch way that led to the aisle where Matt was waiting at the end with the Pastor. I knew his eyes were on me, taking in the sight of me in my gown that he heard so many hints about, but had never seen. Taking my Dad’s arm as he led me down the aisle to Matt was a very special moment for me, because Matt is the kind of man my parents had always hoped for me.

Renee and Matthew

I especially love Renee’s memory of walking down the aisle with her Dad. Thank you again Renee, for sharing your beautiful wedding with us.

Featured Bride

Adrien S. from Pennsylvania is our featured bride. She listed her gorgeous Maggie Sottero wedding dress and it sold in two weeks! Read on to find out more about Adrien’s gown and her fun Halloween themed wedding.

Adrien and her handsome new hubby!

Growing up, Halloween was always my favorite holiday, so we decided to do a Halloween themed wedding. I got married on Saturday, October 30th just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. I had a church wedding and my reception was held at a golf course called the Club at Shadow Lakes. Masquerade masks were provided as favors for all of our 250 guests, and the entire ballroom was covered with Halloween decorations. Even our cookies were Halloween themed! One of the big surprises of the night was our choreographed dance that my husband and I (and a few of our friends) performed for all of our guests. We decided in keeping with the theme that we would dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Adrien hired an artist to carve their portraits into a pumpkin. It turned out beautifully!

What a perfect bouquet for a Halloween themed wedding.

When you were looking for a dress, what style were you looking for?
I wasn’t looking for anything in particular…I just kept trying on dresses that seemed to fit my style. I ended up with a Maggie Sottero dress from their couture bridal collection.  The dress was an A-line with beautiful floral motifs decorating the entire lace gown.

We love, love, love the flower appliques on her gown.

Why did you decide to sell your wedding dress?
After giving it some thought, I was pretty sure that I would never wear it again…so why keep it?  I felt that it would be better to sell the dress and help someone else out. Honestly, if I knew that BravoBride existed before my wedding, I would have tried to purchase my dress through the website.

Would you recommend selling a used wedding gown to other brides?
Definitely!  Actually, I already have.

The black bridesmaid gowns were a great fit for Adrien's wedding.

What was your favorite part of your big day?
I would have to say that the favorite part of my wedding was the Father/Daughter dance. I have a really close relationship with my father, so that moment was really special for me.

Ahhh- thanks again Adrien for sharing your beautiful wedding with us!

Top 5 Reasons to Buy a Used Wedding Dress

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

This Pnina Tornai gown is $1500 off the original price on BravoBride. Click the image to view the full listing.

When a used wedding gown comes to mind you may think, “The dress won’t be as special,” “The dress has been worn by another bride,” “The dress will not be one of a kind.” This is not the case at all. Here are five great reasons to buy a used wedding dress.

No. 5 “Green” Is the New “White”

“Green” Is the New “White” when it comes to being environmentally savvy.  This is not referring to finding that perfect green wedding dress, this means you are taking an initiative to purchase and own a recycled gown on your wedding day.  Buying another woman’s wedding gown and wearing that preowned dress is a rather intelligent choice.

No. 4 You’ll Only Wear it Once

You are wearing this dress once. One day, one celebration for all to see. Used wedding dresses are just as special as never worn before wedding dresses. The gown that you are about to purchase was treated with genuine care because for someone else, like you, that dress was one of the most important aspects of the wedding to the bride.

No. 3 The Two Dress Bride

You are a woman who cannot decide on just one dress and rather wear two dresses on your special day. Going the used route seems more logical and practical. If you want a dress change during your ceremony and reception having two preowned gowns is a perfect choice.

No. 2 People Pleaser

Your mother wants you to wear a conservative ball gown on your wedding day, you really do not want to disappoint your loving and giving mother. You on the other hand want a sexy chic dress to recite your vows in and dance the evening away with your future groom. Finding both wedding gowns at a heavily discounted price because they are used is reason enough to buy both styles. Wear one for bridal portraits and the other to the actual wedding.

No. 1 Bride on a Budget

You’d love a Vera Wang wedding dress, but cannot even begin to think how you would afford a couture gown.  Buy a used designer dress at a fraction of the original cost and wow everyone at your wedding.  At the end of the night you won’t  be wishing you could return the over priced lux wedding dress. You bought a preowned designer gown, dazzled your husband and guests and no one was the wiser.
