5 Ideas for a Beach Wedding Reception
Who doesn’t love the beach? It’s gorgeous views, calming waves, and dazzling sun make it a beautiful venue for a wedding or a reception – and we are inspired! Read on for some fun, practical, and elegant ideas for holding a wedding or wedding reception at the beach!
1. Neutral Color Palette
When picking out a color palette, think neutrals. The beach is full of natural, muted colors, such as taupe sand, teal water, white seashells, and pale blue sky. Together, these colors make for a lovely and chic palette. They recall the beautiful, coastal scenery without being too heavy handed, and easily mix and match to create a lovely ambiance for your reception.
2. Beachy Décor
The beach is full of beautiful, natural objects which come in many different complimentary colors – perfect for decorating your reception! Going for more of a beachy look? Try using seashells, sand, or driftwood as decorations. More inspired by the ocean? Seaglass, coral, or starfish would also make excellent addition. You can tie it all together with breezy, sheer fabrics, such as table runners or draperies. Together, these items merge easily into a beachy and bridal atmosphere.
3. Easy, Breezy Dresses
As much as we love ball gowns and satin, in an outdoor wedding, it’s important to dress appropriately for the weather. In a beach wedding, the sun and sand call for shorter hems and breathable fabrics. We recommend wearing looser cuts, knee length hems, and light colors. These will keep you from getting too hot, or running the risk of dirtying your dress. We love the idea of the above Adele Wechsler gown for its flowy skirt and halter neckline. However, if you’re looking for a shorter skirt, we recommend something like this Alfred Angelo for its cut, or this Stella York for its beautiful compromise between a long and short gown.
4. Sand-Ready Footwear for All!
Speaking of weather appropriate, how about venue appropriate? Beach weddings are not a place for fancy, closed to shoes or heels, so it’s time to get creative with your footwear! For your guests, we recommend offering complimentary flip flops at the venue. These are a great idea if you are getting married or holding your reception in the sand, as it will keep unsuspecting guests from ruining their shoes or getting stand stuck in their toes. You can find some relatively inexpensive ones here on Amazon.
For the wedding party, we recommend barefoot sandals! Barefoot sandals are sole-less, highly decorative anklet that give the appearance of formal sandals without the inconvenience of sandy shoes. You can find some lovely barefoot sandals here at Forever Soles or on Etsy.
5. Ocean-Inspired Cakes
Lastly, we love the idea of having a beautiful, ocean-inspired cake! Water color accents, beachy textures, and ocean blues are a great compliment to white wedding cakes as well as your beach themed reception. The one featured above, from Vanilla Bake Shop, is especially stunning. We love the overlaying colors as well as the sugar crystals that line the bottom like sea salt. To find out more, you can visit Vanilla Bake Shop here, or see other ocean-inspired cakes here.
