6 Places to Get Bridesmaid Dresses Other than Bridal Stores

6 Places to Get Bridesmaid Dresses Other than Bridal Stores

You are sure to find some beautiful bridesmaids dresses at a bridal store, but the process can be quite a hassle. Finding a day and time that suits your whole bridal party, attending an appointment, and fixing dates for alterations has the potential to be a fun way to spend time with your bridal party, but may be more planning than you have time for. To save you time in your busy schedule, we put together a list of 6 online stores where you can order gowns. Read on to learn the pros and cons of each store, and whether they might be a better fit for you than a bridal store.

1. Nordstrom

Pros:

  • – designer gowns
  • – simple, chic styles
  • – great selection of cuts and colors
  • – basic alterations are free for full price items!
  • – easy shopping – no appointment necessary!

Cons:

  • – a little pricey

Nordstrom has a lot of great qualities! As it is a department store, shopping is incredibly easy. Everything is online and in standardized sizing, and most gowns (of which there are many!) come in a wide variety of colors and sizes. Although admittedly pretty expensive, the huge selection of beautiful, designer gowns and the promise of free alterations makes Nordstrom a great candidate for bridesmaid gowns!

2. Revolve

Pros:

  • – unique gowns
  • – easy, online shopping
  • – designer gowns

Cons:

  • – expensive
  • – poor to mediocre customer service

Revolve is a great website for someone looking for unique bridesmaid gowns. There is a wide range of cuts and colors (some racier than others): a great selection. All sizing is standardized and all shopping is online, making it a hassle-free experience. However, be warned: customer service is said to be dicey. While there seems to be debate about whether the quality of the clothing reflects to the price, there is a general consensus that shipping is slow and modifying or returning orders is a difficult and potentially frustrating process: make sure you really love what you order!

3. Plum Pretty Sugar

Pros:

  • – unique dresses
  • – floral wedding gowns!
  • – easy, online shopping
  • – moderately priced options
  • – swatch book!

Cons:

  • – limited colors, styles, and patterns

Plum Pretty Sugar bridesmaid gowns are so pretty! These dresses come in beautiful, pastel colors, embellished with breezy ruffles and lovely floral patterns: a wonderful choice. However, those are the only gowns available. Not interested in flowers or ruffles? You’ll have to look somewhere else. If you are? Great! Plum Pretty Sugar offers easy online shopping, moderately priced gowns, and a swatch book for bridesmaid fabrics.

4. Macy’s

Pros:

  • – great selection of gowns
  • – unique dresses
  • – moderately priced
  • – easy online shopping

Cons:

  • – limited colors and patterns
  • – alteration fees

Like Nordstrom, Macy’s offers all the benefits of department store shopping. Shopping is easy and online and dresses come in a variety of standardized sizes: but Macy’s has the advantage of moderate price! If you are looking for a unique gown with beautiful embellishments, Macy’s could be the place for you. However, it’s worth noting that they offer very few simple gowns, and colors are limited. They also charge a fee for alterations.

5. Modcloth

Pros:

  • – unique dresses
  • – moderately priced
  • – variety of cuts and colors
  • – easy online shopping

Cons:

  • – slow shipping
  • – limited sizes

Modcloth has some beautiful, quirky, stylish choices. Even better? They also have some of the best prices! While individually gowns may only come in a select few colors and cuts, the website offers a wide range of dresses, and shopping is easy and online. The biggest drawbacks to this retailer are, firstly, that clothing goes out of stock quickly, and secondly, shipping is s-l-o-w. You can pay for faster shipping, but the cost is steep. The take away? Make sure you order your dresses early and as soon as they’re in stock!

6. Rent the Runway

Pros:

  • – designer dresses at a significant discount!
  • – bridesmaids don’t have to keep or sell dresses
  • – eco-friendly
  • – free back up size
  • – wide selection

Cons:

  • – must make an account with a monthly charge
  • – no alterations
  • – must order far in advance!

Rent the Runway is an online clothing rental company which allows for subscribers to borrow designer clothing at a greatly reduced price. This could be a great option for a bride who wants designer gowns, or a bridal party that doesn’t want to keep or sell the dresses after the wedding. Renting several of the same gown is much cheaper (and better for the environment!) than purchasing multiple dresses. This becomes especially important if you are only planning to use the gowns once. There is a wide variety of beautiful gowns available, and the rental process is easy and organized. However, there are some significant drawbacks to this renting for a wedding.

Firstly, you do have to create an account which charges a roughly $150 service fee per month. If you order in advance, which is highly advised due to how quickly rentals are ordered, you may end up paying a fair amount more than expected. You can do an online bridal appointment with a “Wedding Concierge”, but this too costs $160 a bridesmaid. It is cheaper than the monthly charge, but still a significant amount of money. Additionally, although the company does offer a free back up size, due to the nature of the purchase you cannot make alterations to the gowns.

We wish you the best of luck finding the perfect dresses for your wedding day! And as always, remember to check out BravoBride for used bridesmaid dresses at a greatly reduced price.
