Do’s & Don’t’s of Choosing a Wedding Gown

When he finally pops the question, your first instinct might be to run to the nearest bridal salon. This is understandable because nothing makes your big day seem more real than finding your dress. However, we’ve come up with a quick list of do’s and don’t’s to help you when choosing the perfect wedding gown.

Do: stick to your budget. To avoid going over don’t try on gowns that are out of reach.

Do: donate or sell your wedding dress, If you don’t plan on wearing or re-purposing your dress after the big day why not give it a second life.

Do: keep an open mind and try on several different styles; having a certain silhouette in mind is a great starting point, but it may not fit your body type. Having an open mind allows your options to be endless.

Do: secure your wedding venue first, then purchase your dress. A formal ball gown doesn’t work well at a beach wedding so it’s best to avoid having to purchase an additional dress.

Don’t: bring everyone you know to your bridal appointment. Bring a close friend and a family member who’s opinions you value and trust. If you have too many people then you’ll have too many opinions which can result in becoming frustrated and confused.

Don’t: second guess your gown, once you have purchased a wedding dress it’s time to set down the bridal magazines and log-off the websites (or at least the wedding dress sections). If you don’t tempt yourself  you’ll be less likely to find something that you think may be a better fit.

Don’t: become impatient if you don’t immediately find the ‘one’. Remember to have fun! This is probably the most meaningful article of clothing you’ll ever buy so take time to enjoy the experience.
