Weddings can be a huge financial burden on not just the bride and groom but the families as well. There are so many ways to save money here and there to ensure that your big day is still as special and beautiful as you dreamed but doesn’t break the bank. Here are a list of Do’s and Don’ts to follow when planning a wedding on a budget.
- DO: SET A BUDGET BEFORE YOU START PLANNING
This is a super important thing to do because odds are this budget will get bigger the more you plan. If you set a budget before you start planning you are less likely to splurge on unnecessary things! The best way to save money is to not surpass your budget because once you do the “what’s $100 more dollars in the grand scheme of things” mentality will set in and next think you know you are $1,000 past your budget.
- DON’T: FOCUS ON LABELS
Don’t break the bank on a super expensive designer dress. Odds are you can find a similar version that isn’t designer for a whole lot less! If you are set on having a designer dress don’t buy it for full price. Try to buy it used or for sale! Make sure you check our website Bravo Bride because we sell tons of designer wedding dresses for a huge discount! Remember in the end no one is going to see the tag but you!
- DO: RENT INSTEAD OF BUY
One great way to save money is to rent, rent, rent! Renting is almost always cheaper than buying, so rent at every chance you get! Everything from tables and chairs to your wedding dress can be rented! This is a great way to get everything you want for your dream wedding at a good price.
- DON’T: HAVE AN OPEN BAR
Alcohol at the reception and dinner is a huge expense especially if you have a lot of guests. There are multiple ways to get around having an open bar. One way is to not serve a full bar but instead only serve wine, beer, and a custom drink that you can name after the newlyweds! Another great way that not many people think about is to skip the Champagne toast and instead have them raise whatever drink they have at the time (by doing the toast at dinner more often than not people will have a glass of water in front of them to toast with). Lastly if you are self-conscious about making your guests pay for their own alcohol you can always limit the bar hours, by not having the bar open all night you will save a ton of money!
- DO: HAVE A SMALL WEDDING
The guest list is a very simple place to save money when you are planning a wedding on a budget, the less people you invite the less expensive your wedding is. The more guests you have the more money you will be spending on tables, chairs, food, drinks, ect! So make sure to only invite those who you really want to be there for you on your big day!
- DON’T: FORGET THE SMALL STUFF
When you are planning out your budget don’t only include the big things like your dress, the venue, and food and drinks! Many people forget about the small things like your marriage license, sales tax and service charges, and gratuities. The small and forgotten things tend to be what makes you exceed your set budget so make sure to account for them in the beginning!
