So you just got engaged and you’re starting to plan the most fantastic and beautiful wedding ever, but you need to send out the invitation. The wedding invitation is such a crucial part to your wedding because it provides all of your family and friends with the correct information they need to make your wedding day a success. With that being said, we’ve come up with a wedding invitation timeline/guide of what aspect of your invitation needs to be sent and when!
Save the Date
Although they are not a requirement, save the dates are always a nice heads up for your friends and family. Typically you want to send these out 6-8 months before the wedding. Typically couples make their “Save the Dates” with pictures from their engagement photoshoot.
Don’t send your invitations 7 months in advance, because that just is not necessary and is going to put more stress on the wedding planning. Instead, try to get your beautiful invitations out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. That gives your guests plenty of time to RSVP without feeling overwhelmed. Don’t forget that your wedding should include the invitation itself, a reception card, a reply envelope, reply card, directions, and accommodations.
Collecting your RSVP’s
Typically you want to collect your RSVP’s around 3-4 weeks before the wedding. This way you will have ample time to alert the caterer, venue, etc. Also this allows you enough time to adjust for plus-ones.
THANK YOU CARDS
We all can get caught up in the wedding madness, but it is important to remember that thank you cards are a must! They should be sent out ASAP. (Pro-tip: fill out the envelopes and cards with the names and addresses of the people your are inviting to save time).
